a date with my city

so over valentines! today I'm going on a 'date' with new york (a la carrie bradshaw in sex in the city) first up? the Met. I wanna check out this new exhibit, Walker Evans and the Picture Postcard.

a week in and the place i work is already holding a major event! i got the amazing opportunity to work it and couldn't have had more fun. The party was held at this swank little club on the west side and was decked out to the maxxxx. celebs like clive owen (we brushed shoulders!), Mel Gibson, and Anthony Hamilton were there along with major fashion faces like Lauren Bush, David Lauren and my faaaaaaavvvvvorittttteeeeeeee Thom Browne (above). iii mean i think I've been obsessed with his suits since I first saw them in vogue a couple years ago. He made me take notice of menswear! They're so quirky and fun and the moment i saw him walk into the door tonight i was in love. ankles bared, he was just as presh and friendly in real life as you would hope. anyway, im exhausted from standing in heels all day-how do clackers do it?-until next time!


and for all those who are wondering:: i wore a highwaisted black silk jumpsuit, black tights and the black booties. (photocred: google?)

iiii meean

honestly i think i've put off this post because i feel sooo awkward posting outfit pics of myself! i decided that there is no way to nnnoooottt feel like a complete loser (this will be the first and last time i do this)but because i promised and because my roommate wasn't home--mirror pics will have to suffice.

anyway, i decided to go very simple, to be on the safe side. i had no idea how much running around id be doing etc so flats (unfortunately) were the final decision.

the next two days, i definitely was a bit more adventurous. a navy jumpsuit(romper?) with black tights and the booties! and friday brought black jeans, riding boots, and a flowery, flowy top tucked in. might sound a little cracked out, but i think overall looked pretty cute. lots of accessories is key, i think. i've been trying to follow that advice i got over at fashionista!

things have been super hectic since school and everything started. grammys are tonight though and im chilling with the roomie and some friends. anyone else looking forward to waynes performance? not to mention the dresses, and shoes....!!

....amazing. along with pretty much every other fashion week follower, i was also in love with balmains most recent collection. most specifically? the shoeeeeeeesssss. jennifer connelly wearing them (and the dress!) so well.

how long until jane over at Sea of Shoes has these bad boys and we're all extremely jealous?

i figured i wont really decide what im wearing until im about to walk out the door. I just keep changing my mind! Plus i know ill prob love/hate it all day regardless of what i end up choosing. main rule: don't overdo it, and dont look like im trying too hard. one day at a time....
Also, i came to a conclusion that heels on the first day would just be a bad idea. i need to scope out the situation and see what ill be doing. My roommate said some intern at her office came in heels once and everyone snickered about how ridiculous she looked. i do NOT want that kind of attention on my first day. plus i got some great advice over at www.fashionista.com saying that "Flats are totally okay, and actually very practical considering if you're going to be a fashion intern, you'll probably be sent out on runs to pick up samples. I can't tell you how many times I saw girls show up their first day in heels, and then crying when their feet were all blistered from walking all over the city." That, i also, do NOT want! Also someone else gave some honest, and very humbling advice- "As long as you look presentable, it's more about knowing your shit and being able to work hard...it's not about "omg what is the intern wearing. seriously it's not about you..."

all great advice that ill remember when getting dressed in the morning!

calm before the storm

So i've just landed back in the city and im exhausted. Trying to get my life in order! This semester is going to be crazzzyyy busy. Classes start tomarrow and internship starts tuesday. Already debating about the first days outfit-any thoughts? (keep in mind the frigid NY weather!)
